MEET THE ARTIST

About Tina

I am drawn to the beauty of things that feel discovered rather than made.

My paintings emerge slowly through layers of paint, texture, scraping, sanding, veiling, and mark-making. I often add only to take away again, allowing earlier colors and gestures to resurface. Rather than beginning with a predetermined outcome, I work intuitively, responding to what develops and deciding when to intervene and when to leave something beautifully unresolved.

A New Way of Creating

Before becoming a painter, I spent 28 years as a salon owner and hairstylist. I was accustomed to creating for other people, with someone else’s expectations shaping the result.

Painting offered something entirely different: a place where there was no one to please and no single right answer.

In the studio, I am learning to trust my own eye, resist the urge to correct every imperfect mark, and let the history of a painting remain visible. Each work becomes a negotiation between intention and accident, control and surrender, what is revealed and what is concealed.

The Work

I am influenced by organic forms, aged surfaces, buried color, unexpected combinations, and the quiet beauty of things altered by time. I want each painting to feel contemporary yet familiar; like something newly uncovered that already carries a history.

The process has become less about making something conventionally beautiful and more about discovering what happens when I trust myself enough to create something that feels true.

I do not need the viewer to understand what a painting means. I hope they simply feel that something honest happened there.
